Sports: Play it or fashion statement?

I have a question about sports today. I am a soccer player, and it seems like some of the guys and girls seem to be more interested in the brand name, material, and color of the uniform than actually playing sports. Guys are just as guilt as the girls. Guys are all into how their basketall, soccer, and football uniforms look at feel. Girls are into their cheerleading, soccer, softball, volleyball, and basketball uniforms. What do you all think about this? Are we going fashion crazy in the U.S.? Is it a big deal overseas? I know people overseas are all into the soccer jerseys. This brings up the question about sports clothes worn by people that do not even play sports. They wear soccer shorts, basketball shorts, etc. What is the reasoning behind this?

1. people can want to look good and play great at the same time. this doesn;t mean theyre not dedicated to the sport. and people who don't play the sprot may wear the colthes to be comfortable.
